Information You Provide
A name, phone number, or address entered into a search form is sent to the third-party service that supplies the results. Burlington Residents Directory does not retain a separate copy of those search entries on its servers. If you contact us, we receive the details included in your message and use them to respond.
Automatic Technical Information
Like most websites, our host records routine technical logs such as an IP address, browser type, pages requested, and access time. We review aggregated activity to maintain the service and understand which reference pages are used. Cookies or comparable tools may also support basic analytics and, when applicable, advertising measurement.
How Information Is Used
We use the limited information described above to operate the service, troubleshoot technical issues, measure overall traffic, and improve the reference material. We do not sell lists of visitors or create individual visitor profiles from their use of the site.
External Services and Links
Links may lead to Town of Burlington, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, library, archive, and other third-party services. Those destinations control the information submitted there under their own privacy policies. Sponsored search results are also supplied by a third party, so information entered into that service is handled under the provider’s terms rather than this policy.
When Information May Be Shared
Hosting and support providers may process server logs for us. Analytics or advertising partners can receive the automatic information described above. We may disclose information when required by valid legal process, but do not otherwise release contact messages or technical logs for unrelated purposes.
Safeguards and Retention
The service uses an encrypted connection, and routine logs are retained only for as long as the purposes described here reasonably require. Burlington Residents Directory has no visitor accounts, passwords, or saved profiles to protect as account records.
Visitors Under 18
This service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe that a minor has sent us personal information, contact us so that it can be removed.
Your Privacy Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data a website keeps about you. Because we retain very little, a request generally involves checking the contact mailbox and applicable server logs, then removing what we find. Use the Contact page to make that request. Research did not identify a Massachusetts comprehensive consumer-privacy statute that creates a universal deletion right for this situation, so this policy does not promise one.
Public records are different. Records held by Burlington, Middlesex County, or Massachusetts offices are outside this service’s control. Requests for those materials go to the custodian. The Massachusetts Public Records Law, M.G.L. c. 66, § 10, governs the request process for eligible public records. Some records have separate confidentiality rules, including Address Confidentiality Program protections under M.G.L. c. 9A and 950 CMR 130.00; that program can provide qualifying participants a substitute address but does not erase prior disclosures.
Policy Changes
We will post revisions to this policy here. Continued use after a revision is posted means you accept the updated policy.
